   Bloomsburg, PA * 7/24/2010... 53 athletes competed in four races at a summer biathlon event hosted by the Pennsylvania Biathlon Club at the Whitetail Preserve in Luzerne County, PA on Saturday, July 24. Doug Hoover of Williamsburg, PA and Ann Sick of Millville, PA won the match class races. Kip Hoffman of Watsontown, PA and Tracy Yutko of Barnesville, PA prevailed in the sport class competitions.

  Hoover was the best shooter of the day, recording three penalties to overcome a lackluster run in winning the match race by 82 seconds over Seth Beckmen of Linden, PA. Beckman, a strong runner who had previously finished fourth in the Altoona race, recorded six penalties. Scott Sick of Millville, PA was the top master finisher as he recorded seven penalties and finished third overall.

  Meanwhile, Ann Sick was the second best shooter of the day, recording four penalties in winning the women’s race. She prevailed by 26 seconds over her daughter, Katie, who recorded seven penalties and had the strongest run of the day.

  In winning the women’s sport race, Yutko recorded six penalties as compared to the two penalties recorded by second place finisher Hannah Sick. Yutko’s stronger running allowed her to prevail by 32 seconds. Sherry Robinson of Sugarloaf, PA was the top master finisher in fifth place overall.

  A strong local roadracer, Hoffman made his biathlon debut by recording five penalties. He ran strong to make up an early deficit and prevailed by 71 seconds over second place finisher Nate LaDue of New York, who recorded three penalties. Len Mellon of Bethlehem, PA was the top master man in the sport race as he took fifth overall.
