1st RUN OF THE LEPRECHAUN

  The Susquehanna River Runners Club held their first annual Run of the Leprechauns at 10 AM on Sunday March 16, 2014 from the Swoyersville Hose Company and taking a mile trek through the streets of Swoyersville and ending at Murphy’s Pub where all runners were treated afterwards to beer and pizza from Murphy’s Pub.
  15 runners were brave enough to venture out there and deal with the 23 degree temperatures with a wind chill that made it feel like it was in the teens. As the gun went off, club president Jeff Skwierz took off like this was his race to dominate as he went through the quarter mile in 68 seconds. However, having not raced in so long came back to haunt him as the obviously too fast pace came back to bite him and John Martino was able to overtake the lead with a little over a quarter mile to go and run to victory in 5:05.
  Ali Schappert was victorious on the women’s side with a 21 second victory In 5:57 over fellow club member Jill Matthews. Their times took 3rd and 5th overall respectively.
