WINTER FUN CONTINUES-     This has been a great winter for alternative ways to maintain one's fitness level until the start of the running season in spring. First, we had the snowshoe biathlon at Whitetail Preserve, then the Pa. Snowshoe Championships at Nescopeck State Park; and this weekend I had the opportunity to do the Heat up Hamilton Duathlon. This event featured a 6km x-c ski followed by a 5km run thru the Colgate University Campus in upstate New York. If you are the type of person that wants to stay fit during the winter and doesn't enjoy the treadmill or running thru the ice and snow on the roads, plan to change your winter training to include some of these unique races. Insta Results had a ski -run event in the 70's and 80's.Many local runners like the Rawls took part. Maybe we can bring it back. But I highly recommend trying these competitions to make the winter fun again.

SOLES4SOULS SHOE DRIVE AT NATIONAL RUNNING CENTER-     The National Running Center is teaming up with Soles4Souls, an organization which has focused on meeting the elementary need of footwear by distributing over 7,000,000 pairs of shoes to needy people in over 125 countries. We will be accepting donations of your gently worn running shoes beginning February 15th and ending March 20th. Please consider donating $1 along with your old shoes to help cover the freight costs for shipping these shoes. Visit http://www.soles4souls.org for more information on this organization. When you stop by to drop off your shoes, also consider joining with National Running Center in donating to the Double Harvest Disaster Relief project to aid those left in need after the recent earthquakes. Operation Double Harvest Haiti is located approximately one-half hour east of Port-au-Prince and has been providing medical care, housing, education, and food to needy Haitians since 1981. Your donation will buy fuel for transport of materials to be distributed at the project, food, fuel to pump pure water from the wells on the farm, medical supplies, and medical care. We will be accepting donations as small as $1 through March 20th. We are very excited about these opportunities to share of the abundance we have been given and make a difference in the lives of those in desperate need! We encourage you to join us!
