Runners outside of the Hazleton Area have been quite successful in winning the race series the past two years as Kerry Zawadski (Plymouth) successfully defended her 2009 Womens Overall title and George Dunbar, Jr. (Old Forge) captured the Mens Overall. Joe Kichlinsky(Wilkes-Barre) and Tracey Dutko-Strungis(Mountaintop) won their respective Masters Divisions while Hazleton Area duo Dan Nenstiel and Lindsay Pugliese won the 19 and over divisions. Northwest runners, Mike Lewis and Frazee Sutphen won the Schoolboy Divisions.
The 2011 Greater Hazleton Festival of Races will be sponsored this year by Dunbar's Evergreen Landscaping, Inc. of Old Forge,Pa., Tim Kelly, Physical Therapy of Conyngham/Hazleton and Palermo Chiropractic Center of Hazleton. The first leg of the event kicks off with the Hazleton Health & Wellness Center 5K April 30th and
will conclude with the Serento Gardens 5K/10K in early October.
The 2011 Championship Series will consist of only *three required races for the 18U(18 and under) runners; two(2) 5K races and The Valley 4 Mile Race.(*Due to conflicts with track and XCountry seasons)
19O(19 and over) have five required races; The Valley Great 8, three 5K races and one 10K race.
All 18U participants will receive awards
Awards will be presented to first through sixth place in both the 19O and Master Divisions. There is no extra fee for participation in the race series. There is no duplication of awards. Individuals 19 and over can use their best three 5Ks and best 10K score if they run more than the required races. Individuals 18 and under can use their best two 5Ks if they run more than the required two 5k races.

August 20th Nescopeck State Park Trails 5K/10K Runs
August 21st Run for the Canoli
September 10th YMCA Run for the Gold
October 1st Seasons Change 5K/10K
All runners who complete any four races are eligible for a grand prize, a 32inch HDTV, therefore 18U will need to run a fourth race for the TV drawing. (Must be present to win at the Valley Running Club Banquet in October)
